My Faith

My Faith

I'm a middle-aged Dyspraxic, possibly autistic even more remotely, possibly brain-injured man from Durham. A man with a Christian faith. But also a man who is not even the tiniest bit religious.

I'm a middle-aged Dyspraxic, possibly autistic even more remotely.

Well.. maybe that's a slight exaggeration. But now that I've got your attention, let me elaborate.

I have my faith, as I've just said. I go to a church where I have a great Church family. And I like being a part of it. I believe there is God. Not "a god". God. And my basis for this is belief in the person of Jesus. But really, that's about it. I rarely read a Bible on my own. I'm not really very good at praying, whether that's on my own or even communally.

I don't really subscribe to a doctrine other than the obvious one: the Gospel. The "good news" of the story of Jesus Christ. I don't think of myself as someone who is "saved" or as someone who in some way has needed saving.

I don't know what it is to "know" God. Or Jesus. I don't know what it is to have an experience of the "holy spirit". I find it hard to come to terms with the seemingly supernatural elements of the Bible. The way I like to think of it is that my belief in God is a hunch. I don't go around claiming knowledge of the existence of God because if such knowledge existed, there would by definition be no need for faith.

There are reasons for all of this that go beyond religion, spirituality or the supernatural. My faith, like all Christians around Jesus. I am as sure as I can be that, whether you call it a hunch or not, Jesus not only existed... but exists now. Because that is the beauty of the resurrection story. He died and rose again.

When I first built this website on this subdomain, I originally intended it to be a kind of journal of my thoughts on the Christian faith. I've resurrected it (see what I did there? ), not as someone coming to you thinking he knows all the answers. And hopefully someone who isn't going to tell *you* what to think. And maybe not in the most religious of terms.

My hope is to try and represent the Christian faith in the best way, by expressing myself but not forcing it on others. Whether anyone reads this or not, I don't know, but I hope whoever it does might agree that this site comes from a relatively unique perspective - a non-religious Christian.

I'll talk more about this as I build up the site again. Come back again, soon if you like.

God Bless.
